Abstract

Abstract. The assessment of body balance using clinical scales as the most affordable way to give objectivity to subjective individual perceptions is of great importance in physical therapy. Although this method has some difficulties in diagnostics, which consists in the fact that patients with different diseases can develop various forms of ataxic disorders and static-locomotor dysfunctions Aim: to analyze the utilization of clinical test to assess physical and functional state of movements in persons with neurological deficits. Material and methods: theoretical analysis and generalization of the data from scientific and methodological publications and the World Wide Web, induction. Results: Physical therapy is a powerful and necessary component of the effective and successful treatment and recovery process of patients with cerebral palsy, in addition to medical therapy and neurosurgical intervention. The means and methods of physical therapy will be different and will depend on the assessment of the severity of motor skills impairment, the effectiveness and results of physical therapy. Differentiated use of means and methods of physical therapy requires tests that will enable the objective assessment of the level of knowledge of motor skills and identification of the factors that will affect the patient’s overall health and quality of life. It is advisable to use clinical tests that assess the state of equilibrium and coordination during the implementation of basic motor skills: the transition from the sitting position to the standing one, and vice versa, walking on the stairs, equilibrium while changing directions of motion. The article deals with clinical tests, which enable the objective monitoring and evaluation of balance, coordination and functional state of patients with neurological disorders. Conclusions: Clinical tests are reliable and effective tools for the assessment of balance and movements coordination in patients with neurological disorders, in particular in individuals with a brain contusion. They can be applied both for identifying the severity of motor disorders, the risks of falling, and the dynamics of the results of rehabilitation.
